We contribute to the development of civil society by analyzing the processes of decentralization and European integration of Ukraine, as well as related processes.

Geographically bordering 4 EU member states, we focus on the study of cross-border political processes and other forms of cooperation.

RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT CENTER BORDERLAND

Research and Development Center Borderland is an independent non-profit research and development center that works on the development of civil society by analyzing the processes of decentralization and European integration of Ukraine, with an emphasis on their impact on cross-border political processes with neighboring EU member states.

Being located in a border region bordering 4 member states of the European Union, we organically focus our activities around research and deepening cross-border cooperation with neighboring countries.

The focus of our work is the analysis and research of political and social processes at the local, regional and national levels that affect cross-border cooperation between Ukraine and the neighboring countries of the European Union.

Mission

To promote the European integration of Ukraine through the study of cross-border political processes and further public communication of the results, primarily in the areas of regional international cooperation, cultural and information policy regarding them, information security, and in the field of civil society development.

Vision

The high quality of analytical studies of regional players contributes to the development of the political culture of civil society and, accordingly, to the improvement of local and regional political processes with a potential impact on national level processes.

Principles

The organization was created and operates on the principles of voluntariness, equality of its members, self-government, free choice of the territory of activity, equality before the law, lack of property interest of members, humanity, transparency, non-discrimination, openness and publicity.

The activities of the Organization have a public nature, which is manifested in its interaction with state authorities, local self-government bodies, enterprises, institutions, organizations of various forms of ownership, establishment of partnership relations with other public organizations, movements, funds registered in Ukraine or abroad, citizens of Ukraine, foreigners and/or stateless persons.

The main document that governs the NGO in its activities is the Charter of the organization approved and adopted at the founding meeting.

Kateryna BRENZOVYCH
Member of the Board

PhD in Economic Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of International Economic Relations, Uzhhorod National University. Author of more than 60 scientific and scientific-methodological works. Co-author of the collective monographs "Cross-Border Cooperation between Slovakia and Ukraine I: Impact of the EU relations with Ukraine", "Safe and Inclusive Border between Slovakia and Ukraine: factors influencing cross-border cooperation", published as a result of the international projects "EU-Ukraine Association Agreement and the Slovak-Ukrainian Cross-Border Cooperation: Implications and Opportunities" and "Safe and Inclusive Border between Slovakia and Ukraine". A graduate of the "Open World" exchange program funded by the US Congress.

Research interests: European integration processes, international trade, international migration, socio-economic development of border areas.

Mykhailo SHELEMBA
Member of the Board

In 2011, he received a master's degree in political science at the Faculty of Social Sciences of the Uzhhorod National University. The next stage was postgraduate studies at the Department of Political Science and Public Administration, after which he defended his thesis in 2015 and received the degree of Candidate of Political Sciences. In 2011, he worked as an assistant to the deputy head of the Transcarpathian regional state administration, dealing with solving problems of cross-border cooperation with neighboring countries.
Currently, he is an associate professor of the Department of International Studies and Public Communications at the Uzhhorod National University. In addition to educational activities, since 2010 he has been engaged in conducting sociological studies of the behavior and opinion of the population during election campaigns for parliamentary and local elections.

Research interests: cross-border cooperation, the electoral process and electoral behavior, political sociology, the study of relations between Ukraine and the countries that share a border with the Transcarpathian region, socio-cultural behavior and problems of the Hungarian national minority living in Ukraine, educational cooperation.

 

Olga SURNINA-DALEKOREY
Member of the Board

Master of Political Science, Uzhhorod National University (2004). Master of Public Management and Administration, Uzhhorod National University (2019). PhD in political science, 23.00.02 - Political institutions and processes (Ivan Franko National University of Lviv, 2009). Assistant professor of the Department of the political science and public administration, Uzhhorod National University.

Research interests: cross-border studies, Ukraine's relations with the Visegrad Four countries, political comparative studies, anti-crisis management, political participation and electoral behavior.

Ihor VEHESH
Member of the Board

Candidate of Political Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of Political Science and Public Administration (Uzhhorod National University), researcher who has more than 50 scientific publications. Co-author of 8 collective monographs, the topics of which range from political science methodology to theoretical and practical aspects of tolerance. Expert in political philosophy, political ethics, civil culture and tolerance. He has practical experience in conducting sociological research on various aspects of political, electoral, socio-economic and cultural development of society. Together with representatives of the Ludwig-Maximilians University of Munich, he participated in the development of the Concept of Proactive Tolerance.

Research interests: history and theory of political science, methodological approaches of modern political science, mass society, political culture, democracy, civil society, civil culture, political history, conceptualization of tolerance, cross-border cooperation.

 

Myroslava LENDYEL
Member of the Board

Doctor of political science, researcher in Central Europe on cross-border cooperation, local and regional development, and local democracy. Her interests also include security issues and the Europeanization of the political processes in the region's nations. Being an expert, consultant, advisor, and project manager, Myroslava was able to carry out dozen projects in a group of like-minded individuals, and as a result, the border between Ukraine and its neighboring states is now a little more inventive, tolerant, safe, and stable.

Nadiia KICHERA
Member of the Board

PhD in Political science since 2015, Associate Professor at the Department of Political Science and Public Administration of the Uzhhorod National University. The seniority of teaching work at the University is more than 10 years. She is a researcher with about 50 scientific, educational and methodical works, one publication in edition included in scientometric databases (Scopus), co-author of five collective monographs. During the time of working at the Uzhhorod National University took part in more than thirty scientific events (scientific conferences, expert discussions, workshops, trainings etc.).

Research interests: protection and provision of the rights of national minorities, state ethnopolitics of Central European countries, European integration processes, current issues of public policy and management.

Myroslava TSALAN
Member of the Board

PhD in Economics, Associate Professor at the Department of International Economic Relations of Uzhhorod National University. Her scientific work consists of more than 50 publications of a scientific and scientific-methodical nature. She is a co-author of collective monographs “Cross-Border Cooperation between Slovakia and Ukraine I: Impact of the EU relations with Ukraine”, ”Contemporary issues of the world community and the role of social sciences in ensuring its development”, “The level of efficiency and the need for the influence of social sciences on the development of modern civilization”. Researcher in projects: "EU-Ukraine Association Agreement and the Slovak-Ukrainian Cross-Border Cooperation: Implications and Opportunities", "Safe and Inclusive Border between Slovakia and Ukraine".

Research interests: clustering processes, issues of competitiveness, sustainable development, globalization and regionalization, transformational processes in the world economy.

Leonid ILKO
Deputy Chairman of the Board

In 2018 he completed a full high education in Marketing at the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy. In 2020 he defended his Master of Social Sciences degree in the field of Management of Creative Business Processes at the Copenhagen Business School. Currently, he is obtaining the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in the field of political science at the State Higher Educational Institution "Uzhhorod National University". In addition to educational and research activities, he is involved in marketing, management and technical support of artistic and cultural projects.

Research interests: European and Euro-Atlantic integration of Ukraine, Ukraine's relations with the Visegrad Four countries and Romania, cross-border cooperation, digitalization, digital transformation, digital innovations, political philosophy, connection between art and politics.
